About Dr. Hiroya Nakamura

While growing up in Japan, Dr. Hiroya Nakamura fully expected to become a chiropractor. Doing so would follow the medical lead of his father and both grandfathers, all of whom were “Seitai-shi,” literally bonesetters, the equivalent of chiropractic in the United States.

What he didn’t imagine was that his practice would be more than 6,000 miles away, and include acupuncture.

Since 2002, Dr. Nakamura has helped thousands of patients gain better health at his Schaumburg, Ill. clinic, Nakamura Chiropractic & Acupuncture.

A commitment to his patients’ improvement—“making people happy” in his words—continues to inspire Dr. Nakamura even as he grows his reputation as one of his field’s most respected and sought-after practitioners.

His practice is one of the only ones in the region that offers both chiropractic and acupuncture treatment, with more than 90 percent of his patients eventually receiving care in both modalities.

On the strength of rigorous study that continues to this day, Dr. Nakamura (affectionately known as “Doc Nak”) helps those with disorders or illnesses across a broad spectrum. They include internal disorders, sciatica, scoliosis, back pain, neck pain, headaches, sleeping difficulties and disorders and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.

He also helps people seeking to quit smoking, lose weight, those coping with infertility, anxiety or depression, and a host of other health issues.

Named one of America’s top chiropractors by the Consumer’s Research Council of America, Dr. Nakamura has numerous certifications, including those in treating elite and professional athletes, whiplash and brain injury, and carpal tunnel syndrome.

He is a regular health columnist in two Japanese magazines, has been profiled in an international health magazine, Chiropractic Economics, and is a contributing author in the nationally recognized book on neck pain, "Neck Pain, Neck Pain - You Don't Want It, You Don't Need It."

Dr. Nakamura received his bachelor’s of science degree in economics from Seijo University in Tokyo and two degrees from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa: a bachelor’s of science degree in general science and a doctor of chiropractic degree.

His wife, Rosanna, heads a five-person staff as office manager of Nakamura Chiropractic & Acupuncture. She is from the Dominican Republic and was a full-scholarship college student in Iowa, where they met.

Rosanna Nakamura is fluent in Spanish, the primary language for a growing number of the practice’s patients.

In addition to pursuing his passion for learning new approaches to treating patients, Dr. Nakamura enjoys playing basketball and softball, and is a member of Business Network International.
